Page Meets Stage

West Palm Beach, FL -- July 29, 2009 -- Palm Beach County is fast-becoming a poetry destination. The Palm Beach Poetry Festival, which will celebrate it's 6th Annual Festival, January 18-23, 2010, in partnership with The National Poetry Slam, will present Page Meets Stage, Saturday, August 8 at 2:00 pm at Roxy's Pub, 309 Clematis Street, West Palm Beach. Taylor Mali will host Page Meets Stage with Maureen Seaton and Blair. Admission is FREE.

Two poets will read back and forth, poem for poem ... not competing... but in a meeting of makers. Page Meets Stage reveals not just the difference between slam poetry and regular poetry, but the extraordinary common heritage of oral tradition, celebrating language, whether appreciated visually or aurally.

MAUREEN SEATON will represent The Page ... poems written primarily for an audience of readers. She is the author of ten books and is former Director of the Creative Writing Department at the University of Miami.

BLAIR will represent The Stage ... poems written primarily for an audience of listeners. BLAIR is an award winning Urban Folk, Afro-Punk, Poet, Singer, and Songwriter from Detroit, and a former National Poetry Slam Champion.

Host and originator of Page Meets Stage, Taylor Mali, one of America's finest performance poets is a long-time friend of the Palm Beach Poetry Festival. Taylor will accept questions for the poets from the audience for a Q and A discussion after the readings.

The National Poetry Slam runs from August 4-8, 2009. Teams of slam poets from all over America will compete for the championship round that takes place on the evening of August 8th.

In 2010 Andrea Gibson and Anis Mojgani will perform at the late night coffee house on Saturday, January 23rd. You can see Anis Mojgani in action at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n_OcP62FxQ, in the The Official TV Commercial for the 2009 National Poetry Slam in West Palm Beach, Florida, Aug. 4-8!
